On May 15th, the 5th SMU International Culture Festival was grandly launched at the library square in Lingang New Campus. This event is hosted by the International Education College and the International Office, and undertaken by the Center for Chinese Studies. Over 160 international students from 45 countries studying in our university participate in this event, together with the participation of many Chinese students and some faculty members, as well as overseas students from Shanghai University and Shanghai Ocean University.
Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU firstly gave an ebullient speech. He said that the annual SMU International Culture Festival had become a traditional pageant, and a part of soft environment of international education in SMU. It also provides a good platform for multicultural communication and exchanges, and mutual understanding and tolerance between Chinese students and overseas students, creating an international atmosphere in our campus. Our university will continue to actively create better conditions for overseas students, welcoming them to study in our university.
Themed as ‘windows to the world, bridges of friendship’, the festival fell into two parts: exhibition of various national cultures and international students’ talent show. On various exhibition stands of different countries, the foreign students presented their ethnic customs and cultural traditions with ethnic ornaments, special cuisines, craft goods and traditional costumes.
Afterwards, the international students’ talent show kicked off in Ghana students’ passionate hip-hop performances. The nearly two-hour talent show presented us a wonderful and brilliant performance, featuring singing, dancing, folk music, Kung Fu show, poetry reading, tongue twister, opera, ink painting and so on so forth. The dizzying show aroused bursts of applause and cheers from the audience.
