The 5th International Classes Opened at SMU

On March 10th, the 5th International Classes for maritime studies officially opened. This year four majors are arranged, namely Navigation Technologies, Marine Engineering, International Shipping Management and Ocean Environment Engineering. We have altogether 40 exchange students from America, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Korea, and Denmark, among them students from Ukraine and Denmark for the first time participate in this program. Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU, Prof. Shi Chaojian, Dean of International Education College, Prof. Yu Hongrong, Director of International Office, teacher representatives from relative colleges and departments attended the opening ceremony. Opening ceremony is presided over by Prof. Shi Chaojian, Dean of International Education College.

During the ceremony, Prof. Jin delivered a welcome address. He said that the international classes have become a significant platform of international communication and cooperation for SMU, from which international students could not only gain professional knowledge, but also learn about Chinese history and culture.Prof. Jin also encouraged the students to strengthen communication with each other so as to become an academic-exchange and cultural-exchange envoy between SMU and other maritime colleges. Representative students from MMA Derek Damon also expressed his expectation on life ans study at SMU.
