SMU welcomed around 60 students attending to the 5th SMU Summer School. The opening ceremony for this programs was successfully held in the morning of June 21th. Prof. Shixin, the Vice President of SMU, Dr. Ruan Wei, the Dean of International Education College, , and teacher representatives attended the opening ceremony.
Prof. Shi made a welcome speech, and gave a brief introduction about the school history , development statues, and academic success, especially the academic communication and education activities .He also expressed that although one-month-stay is very short, it is a wonderful opportunity for the students to explore Chinese culture, society, and expand their horizon. Prof. SHI hoped the students could gain knowledge, friendship from this experience.
Dr. Ruan Wei, the Dean of International Education College, separately introduced the background of the project and the curricula’s arranging situation. He mentioned that SMU had a long history of cooperation with Plymouth, and both universities have created plenty of opportunities for the teaching faculty and students. The students who attended the summer school of last year gave us a good feedback, and we are also learning from the management experience, hoping that the students this year could not only learn more about the Chinese culture and society, but also be an ambassador between our two countries.
Then representatives from Plymouth gave us a speech, in which they expressed their expectation for the following one-month arrangements.
This is the 5th year we held SMU summer school. Within this one-month-experience, the students will have the opportunity to learn Chinese language and also other lectures on Chinese culture and tradition, Chinese economy, Chinese society and education system. In addition, field visits to surrounding cities are also arranged.
