To promote Chinese traditional culture, enhance cultural exchange and strengthen the friendship among students, International Education College (IEC) held the Mid-Autumn Festival culture experiencing activity.
The activity was hosted by Ms Yu Mei, teacher of Chinese Culture from IEC, and participated by teacher representatives of IEC and more than 30 international students. It contained three parts, including a presentation on Mid-Autumn Festival culture, festival lanterns making, and moon cake tasting. In the presentation, Ms Yu introduced the historical legends, connotations and celebration customs of Mid-Autumn Festival. Pieces of classic Chinese poems about the festival were appreciated too. After the presentation,the students lit up the festival lanterns they made and sang songs together to celebrate the wonderful day. In the end, international students and teachers enjoyed the traditional delicacies——moon cakes made by SMU.
The students, one after another, expressed their excitement and expectation for such activities which open up a way for them to have a better understanding of Chinese culture.What’s more, students from Malaysia and Vietnam also shared the stories about festival lantern in their countries.
