MTCC-Asia and Myanmar held Virtual Regional Ship Energy Efficiency Technology Promotion Campaign

MTCC-Asia and Myanmar jointly held the Virtual Regional Ship Energy Efficiency Technology Promotion Campaign on 26th November, 2020. The Campaign, organized by MTCC-Asia, Myanmar Maritime University (MMU) and Shanghai Maritime University (SMU), was attended remotely by 38 representatives from shipping industry of China and Myanmar.

Vice president, Prof. Shi Xin, on behalf of SMU, addressed the welcome speech to representatives through the video. He briefly introduced the development of the university, reviewed the history of cooperation between SMU and MMU and pointed out that MTCC-Asia has made great achievements through its various activities and events, such as pilot project, graduate program, regional and national workshop, branch offices, international conference and forum for the efforts to building up the maritime capacity in Asia.  He wished the meeting a complete success and may everyone stay healthy and safe.

Prof. Jin Yongxing, the Director of MTCC-Asia Council and Honorary Chair of International Maritime Lecturers Association (IMLA), expressed his appreciation to MMU and MTCC-Asia’s branch office which was hosted by MMU for their hard work to support MTCC-Asia activities since 2017. He also highlighted that the importance of goods carried by sea and reviewed the outcome made by the IMO MEPC 75. He hoped the online meeting to continue to explore topics, including the implementation of MARPOL Annex VI and the decarbonization of international maritime transport and believed that this online exchange will produce fruitful results and wish the meeting a complete success.

Prof. Ruan Wei, the Head of MTCC-Asia was also in presence and introduced the MTCC-Asia work plan. Presentations related to an introduction of ship energy efficiency promotion in Myanmar, the theory and practice on ship speed reduction for promotion of energy efficiency and introduction of the research projects in SMU integrated engine room lab were presented by MMU experts, MTCC-Asia technical officers and SMU lecturers, respectively. The Campaign was closed at the end of panel discussion.

The purpose of the Campaign is to establish a point-to-point and in-depth communication of exchange between a selected Asian country and MTCC-Asia in terms of the technical and operational views of the uptake of the ship energy efficiency.

MTCC-Asia is funded by the European Union (EU), implemented by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and hosted by SMU.
