MTCC-Asia and the Philippines jointly held the Virtual Regional Ship Energy Efficiency Technology Promotion Campaign on 4th December, 2020. The Campaign, organized by MTCC-Asia, Maritime Academy of Asia & the Pacific (MAAP) and Shanghai Maritime University (SMU), was attended remotely by about 40 representatives from shipping industry of China and the Philippines.
Prof. Jin Yongxing, the Director of MTCC-Asia Council and Honorary Chair of International Maritime Lecturers Association (IMLA), addressed the welcome speech to all participants. He expressed his appreciation to delegates from the Philippines for their great cooperation and efforts on ship energy efficiency. He also highlighted that the importance of shipping industry during the period of COVID-19. Under the circumstances of global climate change, the development of ship energy efficiency technology is becoming more and more important, so he hopes that this online exchange will produce fruitful results and wishes the meeting a complete success
Prof. Eduardo Ma. R.  Santos, the president of Maritime Academy of Asia & the Pacific, made an opening speech on behalf of the Philippines. He expressed his sincere thanks to MTCC-Asia for launching this online webinar. He believed the delegates from the Philippines could learn the knowledge of ship energy efficiency and make a great use of it.
C/E Rodolfo D. Paiso made a presentation on Promotion of Ship Energy Efficiency in the Philippines. He introduced the background of the Philippine perspective, national strategy on maritime energy efficiency objectives, outcomes and targets, existing measure to reduce emission and capacity building to promote energy efficiency.
The theory and practice on ship speed reduction for promotion of energy efficiency and introduction of the research projects in SMU integrated engine room lab were presented by MTCC-Asia technical officers and SMU lecturers, respectively. The Campaign was closed at the end of panel discussion.
The purpose of the Campaign is to establish a point-to-point and in-depth communication of exchange between a selected Asian country and MTCC-Asia in terms of the technical and operational views of the uptake of the ship energy efficiency.
MTCC-Asia is funded by the European Union (EU), implemented by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and hosted by SMU.
