MTCC-Asia and Bangladesh jointly held the Virtual Regional Ship Energy Efficiency Technology Promotion Campaign on 14th December, 2020. The Campaign, organized by MTCC-Asia, Bangabanhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University (BSMRMU) and Shanghai Maritime University (SMU), was attended remotely by about 35 representatives from shipping industry of China and Bangladesh.
Prof. Jin Yongxing, the Director of MTCC-Asia Council and Honorary Chair of International Maritime Lecturers Association (IMLA), addressed the welcome speech to all participants. He extended his sincere appreciation to delegates from Bangladesh. He emphasized that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of cargo transported by sea has been fully proven, so the development of ship energy efficiency technology could be more important. He also believes that this online meeting will enable the industry to adapt new technologies of green ships and deliver fruitful results,
Capt. Kzai Ali Imam, as the representative of Bangladesh participants, made an opening speech on green shipping, and showed the willingness to carry out further cooperation and exchanges with MTCC-Asia on ship energy efficiency technology.
Prof. Md. Maniurul Kabir, the Chief Engineer and Ship Surveyor of Department of Shipping, Bangladesh, made a presentation on Promotion of Ship Energy Efficiency from operation and maintenance perspective. He introduced the background of the Bangladesh perspective firstly, then presented the topic through practical aspects.
The theory and practice on ship speed reduction for promotion of energy efficiency and introduction of the research projects on the application of Global Navigation Satellite System in promoting ship energy efficiency were presented by MTCC-Asia technical officers and SMU lecturers, respectively. The Campaign was closed after the panel discussion.
The purpose of the Campaign is to establish a point-to-point and in-depth communication of exchange between a selected Asian country and MTCC-Asia in terms of the technical and operational views of the uptake of the ship energy efficiency.
MTCC-Asia is funded by the European Union (EU), implemented by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and hosted by SMU.
