At about 12 am on April 17th,hosted by International Education College and organized by the Student's International Communication Association(SICA), educational sports carnival took place as scheduled in the SMU gymnasium, participated by overseas and Chinese students. Not requiring intense competition, the tabloid sports were designed to build an exchange platform and to promote understanding and cooperation among overseas students and Chinese students..

Prior to the events, all students stood in a circle hands in hands to make a self-introduction. In this part, students talked about themselves with genuineness and good humor, which helped them to overcome the initial uneasiness and better prepared for the teamwork.

The head of SICA International Affairs Division Mr. Tian Haiyang opened the event. The first game was the Army of frogs where two players tried to use the least time to squeeze through the hula hoops. In the second game, two players needed to hold on to one ball with their backs and moved forward as fast as they could to win. The women's team composed of a Turkish female student and a Chinese student was no slower than the men's team and won the second place. In the next game of ball throwing, one threw the ball and the other of the same team had to catch the ball with a sack and the team that catch the most balls within the same time would win. After the first three warm-up games, everyone became cheerful and started to join the games with more enthusiasm. In the most exciting game of “Caterpillars”, players competed in two groups, during which four participants held on to a prop shaped like a caterpillar between their legs and dashed forward to the end. The games of “Kangaroo jump” and “Hitting wild duck” were greatly welcomed by the students too.

Happy time always flies, the sports meeting came to an end with everyone got happily involved.  We believe that through these tabloid sports, students had a better understanding of what “team spirit” is. In the course of the activity, we hope that although students come from different countries and regions with different nationalities and faiths, they may begin to realize they have more similarities than they thought.
