In order to further strengthen the construction of the style of study, strengthen the management of undergraduate students’ learning process, and also guide students to successfully complete their studies, these measures are formulated in accordance with the Regulations on the Management of Students in Ordinary Colleges and Universities and the Regulations on the Management of Undergraduate Students’ status in Shanghai Maritime University.

ARTICLE 1

Academic early warning andprobation refers to the statistics of students’ learning and academic progress in each semester, warning of students’ possible or existing learning problems and academic difficulties, and targeted remedial and assistance measures. It is basically a crisis intervention system to provide warnings and take corresponding remedial and assistant measures to help students successfully complete their studies.

ARTICLE 2

Academic warning and trial conditions are as follows:

1. The Academic warning is only applicable to first- and second-year students, and the trial period is not limited to grades.

2. Students who fail more than 2 courses per semester and have more than 9 failed credits in each semester shall be given an academic warning and changed to probation for one semester.

3. During the probation period, students are required to accept the probation assessment. The total credits of the selected courses in the assessment semester shall not be less than 10 credits. The passing standard of the assessment is that the number of failed courses in the trial semester must not exceed 2 or the failed credits must not exceed 9 credits.

4. After the student passes the examination during the probation period, theprobation status will be cancelled. If you fail the examination, you will be expelled. At the expiration of the probation period, the students who are once again warned by their studies shall be withdrawn from the school.

5. During the probation period, incase of suspension of students, the trial period shall be postponed to the first academic semester after resuming school.

ARTICLE 3

Academic warning and trial reading workflow are as follows:

1. At the beginning of each semester (after the make-up test results are entered), the Academic Affairs Office completes the statistics of the list of early warning students and sends this list to each college for review.

2. Each college reviews the student's academic performance according to the professional training plan and relays it back to the Academic Affairs Office. The Office of Academic Affairs will then formally write the document after confirming the list of students, and send the results to the Office of Student Affairs and each college respectively.

3. The college will issue the notice of Probation for Undergraduate Students of Shanghai Maritime University to the probation students to strengthen the supervision and guidance of students' learning in a timely and targeted manner.

4. The college shall establish probation guidance and tracking management files for each student, and regularly track and guide the learning situation of students, and urge students to improve their learning quality.

ARTICLE 4

These measures are applicable to full-time undergraduate students in school. When the academic warning statistics and trial assessment cannot be carried out normally due to force majeure, the school may adjust or cancel the academic warning and trial assessment of the current semester, subject to the notice of the Academic Affairs Office.

ARTICLE 5

These Measures shall be implemented from the date of issuance of the document. The original Administrative Measures for Early Warning and Trial Study of Undergraduate Students of Shanghai Maritime University (Shanghai Municipality Education Commission [2018] No. 226) shall be abolished at the same time. These measures shall be interpreted by the Academic Affairs Office.
