On June 30, 2025, the Shanghai Maritime University (SMU)–Copenhagen Business School (CBS) Summer School Program officially opened. The program brought together 17 students from CBS—Denmark, Germany, Norway, and other European countries—and 8 students from SMU. The opening ceremony was attended by SMU Vice President Yin Ming, along with representatives from the International Education College, faculty members, and participating students.
In his remarks, Vice President Yin warmly welcomed the visiting students and reflected on the development of the joint program. First launched in October 2018 and implemented in July 2019, the SMU–CBS Summer School has evolved into a key platform for integrating maritime research with global business practices. He emphasized the program’s focus on “innovation empowerment” and “cross-cultural collaboration,” aiming to cultivate globally minded, interdisciplinary talent. Over the four-week course, participants will engage in three core components: academic coursework, industry dialogues, and immersive field visits.
The opening ceremony also featured self-introductions that quickly broke the ice among students from different cultural backgrounds. A CBS participant shared, “I look forward to gaining a deeper understanding of the unique dynamics of China’s shipping market through this program.” An SMU student expressed hope that the experience would enhance their cross-cultural communication skills.
As part of SMU’s broader Sino-European exchange initiatives, this summer school not only fosters academic collaboration but also strengthens institutional ties between SMU and its European counterparts. Looking ahead, both institutions aim to expand their cooperation, explore new avenues for international talent development, and contribute fresh energy to the global maritime industry.
